The Mahi Wreck is one of Oahu's most popular dive sites. The vessel was believed to have been originally built as a minesweeper.  However the 800 ton ship was refitted by the Navy and used in the Bahamas for laying cable. The ship possesses a huge bowsprit similar to the Cayman Salvage Master off Key West, FL.

The vessel was purchased in March 1968 by the Dillingham Corporation  and leased to the University of Hawaii as a research vessel. Shortly after being sunk as an artificial reef project in 1982,  Hurricane Iwa repositioned the ship 180 degrees.

The ship lies in 95 fsw about 1/2 mile offshore of the Waianae Boat Harbor.
