USS
SPIEGEL GROVE LSD-32
| The USS Spiegel
Grove LSD-32 was a 510 foot Thomaston Class dock landing ship. Launched
in 1955 she served until 1989 and was selected for the artificial reef
program. Towed to Key Largo, FL she was sunk with much fanfare in June
2002. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned and she capsized. A
huge effort was mounted to right her, but tugs only managed to roll her
over on her starboard side. The Spiegel Grove now lies in 125 fsw with
her magnificent multi-blade screws easily reached. |
